(Atlantic, IA) — The Atlantic girls basketball team got off to a great start in their opener against Pella and led 22-5 but the Dutch stepped up their defensive pressure and came back to beat the Trojans and would win 66-52. Tonight, Atlantic will need to improve things as they open conference play against Denison Schleswig, coverage on KS 95. Head Coach Dan Vargason says they just couldn’t buy a bucket in the second half in their season opener
Paytn Harder had 21 points for the Trojans on 8-12 shooting. She also had 12 rebounds and 3 assists. Vargason saw some contributions from others
Tonight the Monarchs come to Atlantic — it is Denison Schleswig’s season opener. They are coming off an 8-14 season and lose 4 of their 5 starters. Senior Mayah Slater is back who averaged 8.2 points a game. Vargason says they will probably run a similar funky zone defense which Atlantic struggled with last year
