(Guthrie Center, IA) — The AC/GC girls basketball team will be trying to improve on a 16-6 record as they open their season tonight. The Chargers will have to replace three graduating seniors — Kelsey Carlson (11.0 ppg), Reagan Carney (5.9 ppg) and Emerson Van Meter (5.9 ppg). However Shay Lemke is back and is the only senior on this year’s ball club. Lemke did everything last year — averaging 12.4 ppg, 5.5 assists per game, 4.5 steals per game, and 4.0 rebounds a game. Head Coach Brad Baudler says she is the MVP even before the season starts
Lemke says its not easy being the lone wolf senior but she has come to terms with it and is embracing the challenge
Lemke will have plays to throw to inside — 5-8 Junior Cam Richter (11.0 ppg, 6.5 rbg) and 5-11 Sophomore Stella Largent (3.8 ppg, 5.0 rbg) will both be scoring options in the paint but both can also shoot from the perimeter. Baudler says they can go inside and go outside
Junior Becca Littler (3.4 ppg) will be counted on for a greater role this year and Juniors Karli Kautzky, Caydence Boals, and Savannah Akers plus Sophomore Meranda Gruber will push for playing time. Overall Lemke has a good vibe about the make up of this year’s team
