(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending provisions for all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and snowmobiles within the city’s Code of Ordinances. The ordinance, modeled after the City of Ankeny’s, includes modifications based on recommendations from the Community Protection Committee, which reviewed the draft on August 7 and November 13. Key changes include:
*A one-year sunset for this ordinance, the Committee wants to review how things have gone.
*An age requirement of 18 years or older for operation, aligning with Ankeny’s ordinance.
*Required equipment includes a working horn, headlamps, and tail lamps, but the turn signal requirement was removed.
*A subsection prohibiting towing was added.
*Park employees are exempt from restrictions on ATV/UTV use on city property.
*Snowmobile operations were addressed by incorporating elements of the existing ordinance.
*ATVs are limited to snow removal purposes during the snow season, per Police Chief Hogue’s recommendation.
In other action, the Council approved a pay application to Hydro-Klean, LLC for the 2024 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation Project and a resolution accepting the work for the 2024 Sanitary Sewer Rehabilitation UV CIPP Lining.
