(Neola, IA) — There is no doubt that Tri Center has used an explosive offense to get to the Class A state championship game but it seems like the defense has made big plays as well. Last week in the semifinals, the Trojans only allowed 229 rushing yards to Saint Ansgar — that’s their lowest total of the season since week one. The Saints even had 261 yards rushing against Tri Center’s opponent on Thursday West Hancock.
Brenton Kramer is Tri-Center’s middle linebacker and leading tackler with 69 and he says the five players who play up front have dominated the line of scrimmage all year and allowed him to make plays
Kramer says it has not been easy in the playoffs facing run dominant teams — in the quarterfinals it was the triple option running attack of AC/GC, in the semifinals it was the wishbone of St. Ansgar and now it will be the wing T formation of the Eagles.
Kramer started playing football in the back yard with Carter Kunze, Brant Freeberg, Landon Ward and some others and they developed a close bond that exists to this day — now they have each other’s backs in the middle of a special season, the best in Tri Center school history
Kramer says he hasn’t gotten any offers to play college football — if none comes his way he says he wants to Xavier University in Cincinnati and major in business. In the meantime there is a task ahead with West Hancock tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon but Kramer says he has had a feeling about how special this team is ever since their first and only loss of the season
11-1 Tri Center plays 12-0 West Hancock for the Class A State Championship on Thursday afternoon, Kickoff 1pm, Pre-Game 12:30 on KSOM.
