(Anita, IA) — Atlantic, Southwest Valley and Griswold may have all left the SWAT girls wrestling program but there is still talent left between CAM and Nodaway Valley as the team opens their season tonight. Head Coach Tyler South says they have 14 total wrestlers at the varsity level this year including 3 girls who went to state a year ago
Gerlock went 1-2 at state last year and was 26-13 overall. Christensen went 36-10 overall and was 1-2 at state. And Stella Beattie was 21-14 overall and went 0-2 at state. South says that all three of them have the ability to do better and get on the podium
Also returning is Sophomore Destiny Fry (29-15) from Nodaway Valley who missed qualifying for state by one match. Senior Lilliana Tafoya (11-21) provides leadership and South says she has put in a lot of work on the mat in the off-season. South is also excited about some newcomers including Nadia South
South says its a little bittersweet to see the girls wrestling co-op to break up but he wishes the other wrestlers good luck and he is happy with the wrestlers he has on the SWAT team
SWAT opens their girls wrestling season tonight at Ankeny Centennial with a double dual with Ankeny, Des Moines Hoover, and Waverly Shell Rock.
