(Des Moines, IA) Familiar faces are returning to leadership in the Iowa Legislature.
Republicans elected to keep Pat Grassley as the House Speaker for the next legislative session. Grassley has held the gavel since 2019. Over in the Senate, Jack Whitver was chosen to continue as president, a position he has held since 2018.
Unofficial election results show that Republicans will continue to have a supermajority in the legislature when lawmakers return to Des Moines.
Meanwhile, the question over Mariannette Miller-Meeks’ residency for voting is settled. Meeks and her husband own a farm near Owatonna, outside the 1st Congressional District, but she keeps an apartment in Davenport and votes in Davenport. A voter in the First CD challenged Meeks’ residency. Now, the Scott County Board that considers provisional ballots has determined that Meeks does reside in Davenport and accepted her ballot. No law would require a member of Congress to live in the district they represent.
