(Iowa City) The Iowa Hawkeyes are currently on a three-game winning streak following a decisive 96-77 victory over South Dakota at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Tuesday night.
Iowa led by just six points at halftime but outscored the Coyotes 54-41 in the second half. Junior Josh Dix had an outstanding performance, scoring 23 points, significantly exceeding his average of 12 points per game. He shot an impressive 8 of 10 from the field, including 5 of 7 from beyond the three-point line. Additionally, he contributed four rebounds and five assists.
Drew Thelwell made a strong impact coming off the bench, scoring 11 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Payton Sandfort also added 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists to the team’s effort.
The Hawkeyes maintained their high shooting performance, hitting 42% of their three-point attempts against the Coyotes, following a 45% success rate in their previous game against Southern. Seven players contributed to the team’s three-point shooting.
Looking ahead, the competition is expected to intensify as Iowa prepares to face Washington State on Friday in Moline, Illinois. The Cougars, who have not scored fewer than 90 points in any of their first three games this season, will enter Friday’s matchup with a 3-0 record.
