(Des Moines) Iowa Republicans are set to hold supermajorities in both the state House and Senate after the 2024 election. The GOP expanded its control in the Iowa House, increasing its majority vote to 67 to 33. The Senate is now 35 Republicans to 15 Democrats.
Meanwhile, a Republican strategist has filed an election misconduct complaint against Iowa State Auditor Rob Sand, accusing him of violating election laws. Sand handed out free pizza to voters waiting in line on November 5th. The complaint, filed by Luke Martz, argues that actions are prohibited under Iowa law. The law bans the distribution of food or treats to voters on Election Day. Sand defended his actions, stating the pizza was given to hungry voters.
