(Des Moines) The Iowa Economic Development Authority awarded $930,808 in Main Street Iowa Challenge Grants to ten communities around the state. The grants help redevelop or rehabilitate underused buildings as a way to stimulate economic growth and further investment in Iowa’s historic main streets.
Here in southwest Iowa, Woodbine received a grant for $100,000. An adaptive reuse of the Hickey Oil Canopy Service Station will complete the rehabilitations of the remaining three historic canopy stations along the Lincoln Highway in Woodbine. This project will create a one-stop shop for realty, enabling related business like title, legal, financial adviser and construction management to happen in one building. The total project cost is $315,168.
The grants are administered through IEDA’s Iowa Downtown Resource Center and Main Street Iowa programs. The funding will be distributed in the form of matching grants to the selected Main Street programs.
