(Council Bluffs) A significant public measure on the ballot for residents of the counties served by Iowa Western Community College (IWCC) turned down the community colleges’ Public Measure SB by a narrow margin, 45,319 yes to 30,977 no, or 59.40 percent in favor. The Public Measure SB needed a 60-percent majority to pass.
The measure would have contracted indebtedness and issued General Obligation Bonds totaling up to $55 million.
The funds would have been earmarked for constructing a new academic building and renovating and improving existing facilities.
This initiative affected constituents across Adair, Adams, Audubon, Cass, Crawford, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie, and Shelby counties.
