(Atlantic) On Wednesday, the Atlantic City Council recognized Assistant Police Chief Paul Wood for his twenty years of service in keeping the community safe. Atlantic Mayor Grace Garrett presented Paul Wood with a Plaque in honor of his two decades of service.
Atlantic Police Chief Hogue provided a written statement honoring Paul Wood, who joined the Atlantic Police Department in November 2004.
Before joining the APD, he worked for the Pella Police Department and attended the 187th introductory class through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Paul attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and earned an Associate Degree in Police Science.
Paul was promoted to Sergeant in 2011 and Lieutenant in 2016. In April 2022, he was promoted to Assistant Chief.
Paul has been a member of the Atlantic Fire Department since 2007 and was recognized as Firefighter of the Year in February 2024.
Over the past twenty years, Paul has served as the department’s field training officer, sexual and child abuse investigator, arson investigator, taser instructor, and radar instructor.
Chief Hogue noted, “Assistant Chief Wood is an invaluable member of the Atlantic Police Department, and we cannot thank him enough for his leadership, selflessness, and commitment to the APD.”
Paul and his wife Sara have two children, Riley and Brady.
