(Pottawattamie Co) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors this morning approved seed money for Project LifeSaver.
Wendy Andersen, of Treynor, was the administrator of the Project Lifesaver program with the Omaha Police Department. She said Project Lifesaver is an international program that helps Police Departments track individuals who wander or elope.
Project LifeSaver is a tracking device with a radio frequency that looks like a watch that can be worn on the wrist or ankle.
Andersen said Project LifeSaver was designed by officers to help find individuals who are wandering faster.
Andersen said she was contacted by many individuals who live in Council Bluffs who wanted to enroll in Project Lifesaver, but there is no program like this in Pottawattamie County.
Andersen explained that each individual has their own tracking number.
The total to buy all of the equipment to get this program started is around $15,000. Law Enforcement has partnered with the Community Foundation for Western Iowa for private funding and ongoing costs. The Board of Supervisors approved providing $5,000 out of the gaming fund to support this program.
