(USDA) USDA Economist Megan Sweitzer estimates that grocery prices will increase by 1.2 percent in 2024. She is forecasting another 1.5-percent rise in grocery prices in 2025. Sweitzer says, typically, grocery price deflation.” Over the past two decades, we have only seen that happen twice, in 2016 and 2017,” said Sweitzer. That’s when grocery prices dropped by 1.3 percent in 2016 and another two-tenths of a percent in 2017 due to a large harvest of major crops and a significant drop in energy prices.
