(Remsen, IA) — It was another long road trip for CAM on Friday night but lightning did not strike twice. After getting a dramatic first round victory over GTRA, Remsen St. Mary’s ended the Cougars football season 42-6 in an 8 man 2nd round game.
The Hawks would score touchdowns on their first five possessions and CAM could not find rhythm in their offense. On the first drive, Senior QB Landon Waldschmitt scrambled for a 21 yard TD and CAM would turn it over on their first possession on one of four interceptions by Makade Paulsen. Waldschmitt ran it in from 6 yards out to make it 14-0 Remsen St. Mary’s at the 5:23 mark of the first quarter.
CAM only got one first down on their next possession and despite a 45 yard punt from Chase Jahde, Waldschmitt ended in the end zone again on a 22 yard run. Another three and out for CAM and another Waldschmitt TD run from 13 yards early in the 2nd quarter to make it 30-0. CAM finally got Remsen St. Mary’s to punt but Paulsen threw another interception that was returned to the CAM 5 and Waldschmitt got his 5th and final TD of the game to make it 36-0 and it was running clock at the 5:12 mark of the 2nd quarter.
The lone touchdown for the Cougars came on the first drive of the second half as Paulsen moved his team methodically down the field and found Collin Bower for a 10 yard TD pass but Paulsen’s 4th pick of the game was returned by Brady Wurth to the house for a TD and 42-6 was the final score.
Unofficially, total offense was 346 to 179 in favor of Remsen St. Mary’s. Waldschmitt had 22 carries for 140 yards and 5 TD. Keaton Harpeneau had 6 carries for 81 yards.
