(Des Moines) Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird has joined 24 other Attorney General’s in a lawsuit. The case is to remove over a thousand individuals from voter registration lists in Virginia who are suspected of not being U.S citizens. Bird stated the importance of election integrity and noted that Iowa’s voting laws require participants to be citizens. The move follows Virginia’s executive order based on self-reported non-citizen status. A U.S District Court previously ruled against Virginia’s actions. The case is now with the U.S Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, as of Tuesday, over 450-thousand Iowans have submitted early ballots. The surge in early voting comes as Election Day approaches on November 5th, with Linn County reporting more than 20-thousand submissions. The ballots are predominantly from voters ages 55 and older. Local auditors emphasize the convenience of early voting to help alleviate pressure on polling places.
