Galen Dean Campbell was born January 31, 1936, to Earl and Flossie (Henderson) Campbell. He grew up in Warrensburg, Missouri and graduated from Warrensburg High School in 1953. Galen enlisted in the Army in 1959, serving with the 3rd US Infantry Regiment and was stationed in Germany. Galen was proud of his service to his country and was honorably discharged.
After returning from Germany Galen met Shirley Mae Taylor in Kansas City. They were married in Cameron Missouri in May of 1963. To this union were born two daughters, Sheri and Julie. They lived in Kansas City until 1971 when they moved to Gower, Missouri. They resided in Gower until 2006 when they moved to Cumberland, Iowa to be closer to their grandchildren.
Over the years, Galen worked for Hayes Finley Conoco, TWA, East Buchanan Community Schools, Gower Convalescent Center, and the CAM Community Schools. He also was an avid farmer raising sheep and Cattle in the Gower, MO and Anita, IA areas.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Flossie, stepfather, Willis (Chopper) Marshall, brothers, Kenneth and Harold (Ike), several brothers and sisters-in-law’s, nieces and nephews.
Galen is survived by his wife Shirley of Cumberland, daughters, Sheri (Larry) Hunt of Anita, IA and Julie Campbell of St. Joseph, MO; Grandchildren, Taylor (Jenna) Hunt, Ian (Elizabeth) Hunt, and Karys Hunt; one Great Grandchild, Jameson Hunt, a brother, Loren (Peggy) Campbell, a sister, Louis Brenner, along with several sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
A family gathering with friends and family will be held at 1:30 pm till 3:30 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Cumberland Fire Hall in Cumberland, Iowa.
