(Des Moines) Strong south winds will make driving difficult today in southwest Iowa, especially for high-profile vehicles.
The National Weather Service issued a Wind Advisory for all of Southwest Iowa. Forecasters expect south winds 25-to-35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour from 8:00 a.m. this morning to 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday. When driving, use extra caution and secure outdoor objects.
Additionally, Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page Counties are under a Red Flag Warning from 9:00 a.m. today to 8:00 p.m. this evening. A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are occurring or will shortly occur. Strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
