(Griswold, IA) — There will be 155 boys that will line up at the starting line this Saturday at the Class 1A State Cross Country meet — one of them will be Holden Jensen but there was a time this fall when he thought he might not be there.
Jensen is a dual sport athlete for the Griswold Tigers who played football and ran cross country this fall season. However, at the end of September, Jensen went down with a knee injury and he had to shut everything down. It would take a long hard month of rehab to get himself back but Jensen returned on October 19 at a meet just before state qualifying
With one meet under his belt, Jensen felt better prepared when he went to the district meet — he had missed going to state last year by just two spots. This time he was not to be denied a chance to run at state despite his injury
Jensen would play his last football game the next day against Melcher Dallas and would catch a 5 yard TD pass in a 54-20 win. It was the last time he would ever suit up in a football game because Jensen believes that cross country is in his future
Jensen plans on majoring in exercise science at college and wants to become an athletic trainer some day. He says in order to dual sport — especially football and cross country — you have to prepare well ahead of time
Jensen has a goal of finishing in the top 45 at the state cross country meet — his race is at 11:15 on Saturday, the 1A Girls will run at 10:30
