Arthur Gilbert Jurchen was born in Red Oak, Iowa, on May 27, 1955, to Harold and Roberta (Reiken) Jurchen. He entered into rest on October 26, 2024, at Griswold Rehabilitation & Health Center in Griswold, IA at the age of 69 years and 5 months.
When Art was young, the family moved from the Grant, lowa area to Conrad, lowa. Then, in 1969, the family moved again to Webb, lowa, where Art graduated from South Clay School in Gillett Grove in 1973. After graduation, Art attended lowa Lakes College, where he received a degree in Agriculture Business. After graduation, he took a job with Dekalb in Beaman, Iowa, where he worked for 38 years until his retirement. As a working professional, Art also made time to continue his education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA, where he received a degree in Accounting.
On August 16, 1980, he was united in marriage to Margie Winkowitsch at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wellsburg, IA. Throughout their 29 years of marriage, they were avid UNI Panthers fans and enjoyed spending time attending football and basketball games.
After losing his beloved Margie, Art passed his time by gardening, landscaping, and just puttering around in his yard. He also found a passion for camping, which he tried to do as often as he could.
Art is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Jurchen, his grandparents, Gilbert and LaVerne Reiken, and Arthur and Maude Jurchen.
Art leaves behind his parents, Harold and Roberta Jurchen, of Griswold, IA; Brothers Jeffery (Linda) of Cumberland, IA, Ronald “Dean” (Terri) of Sargent Bluff, IA, and Allan (Marina) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a sister Rebecca (Dennis) Larson of Spencer, IA. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, and nephews and his beloved dog, Sadie.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 31, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA, with Rev. Garry DeGeest officiating the service. Interment will take place in Wellsburg, IA, at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Jurchen Family in memory of Art. They will be designated at a later date, and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA, 50022.
