(Guthrie Center, IA) — For whatever reason, AC/GC has had something go wrong to prevent them from going to the Dome. This year Head Coach Cody Matthewson has his team firing on all cylinders as they go into their first round game against Wayne.
The Chargers triple option offense have put up massive rushing numbers — 3,221 total rushing yards which leads the entire state of Iowa. Mike Fuller is over 1,000 yards for the second year in a row — now sitting at 1,002. Jathan South is 84 yards away from going over a thousand for the second year in a row. And Joe Crawford has 795 yards and if AC/GC makes a deep run in post-season, he’ll go over that mark as well.
Matthewson has emphasized improvement in his defense — after giving up 42 points against Riverside and 28 in one half against IKM Manning, Matthewson says everybody plays better when Junior Xander Harwood the team’s leading tackler is in the line up
Another key defender has been Senior Ben Franzeen in the middle according to Matthewson
Tonight AC/GC will host Wayne — the Falcons are the 4th place team out of Class A, District 6 and are led by Junior QB Karter Murphy who has thrown for 629 yards, 6 TD and 6 INT but has run for 1,104 yards and 16 TD. Matthewson says Wayne’s offense all revolves around him
5-3 Wayne visits 8-0 and #1 ranked AC/GC
