(Nevada) Nevada bounced back after a loss to Harlan two weeks ago and returned in a must-win over Creston last week. Harlan, Creston, and Nevada each have a loss in district play. Cubs Head Coach Andy Kleeman says they returned to doing what they do best.
Nevada has traditionally fielded a good running back; this year is no exception. Anthony Eaton is the workhorse with 194 of the team’s 287 carries this season. The senior has 1,346 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaging .6.9 yards per carry. Eaton is coming off a single-game rushing record last week against Creston.
The Cubs face an Atlantic team that also boasts a solid rushing attack, with 3,066 yards on the ground and an average of 7.7 yards per carry. Kleeman says they are gearing up for another tough challenge against the Trojans tonight.
Jake Wailes leads the Trojans with 63 tackles, one sack, and 4.5 tackles for loss. Carter Hadley has 47 tackles and six stops for loss, and Evan Sorensen has 32.5 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and 11 tackles for loss. The Trojans have forced 16 turnovers this season, ten interceptions, and six fumble recoveries. Kinnick Juhl and Jarrett Hansen each have three interceptions, and Hunter Nelson snagged two.
Nevada has 18 takeaways, ten interceptions, and eight fumble recoveries. Braden Lewis and Lucas Brown have two picks, and John Nelson has two fumble recoveries. Jackson Burlage leads the squad in tackles with 58.5, 2.5 sacks, and 6.5 for loss. Jaden Grimm, 43 tackles, 4.5 for loss, and Carson Clem, 35.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and five tackles for loss.
