(Ames) Gilbert dominated the boys’ field at Wednesday’s Class 3A State Qualifying meet at the Iowa State University Course with a perfect 15 points, with the top three runners clocking sub-16 minutes. Carson Squires topped the field in a time of 15:12.50; Logan Bleich finished second in a time of 15:48.00; Jacob Tallman, third in 15:50.70; Emmett Barber, fourth, 16:00.00, and Emrick Ryan, fifth, 16:03.20. The top three teams qualify for the State Cross Country Meet in Fort Dodge next week. Besides Gilbert, Sioux Center finished second with 82, and MOC-Floyd Valley third with 101.
Atlantic finished ninth with 238 points. Luke Irlmeier led the Trojans with a 36th-place finish, Vincent Meisinger, 44th; Devon Fields, 47th; Christian Thompson, 51st; Xander Cook, 60th; Preston Williams, 61st; and Caleb Andersen, 67th—none of the Atlantic runners qualified for the State Meet, but all ran personal bests. Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason says all seven runners reached their meet goal.
