(Red Oak) Red Oak Firefighters responded to a structure fire early this morning at 101 W. Reed Street.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the call went out at 12:46 a.m. A resident woke up to the smell of smoke and found the front porch on fire. Occupants used a fire extinguisher to diminish the fire until Firefighters arrived.
Elliott and Stanton Fire Departments were also paged; however, they were disregarded as the first arriving Fire Department personnel located a small fire in the front porch area. Fire Department personnel verified that all occupants had been evacuated, and the fire was quickly extinguished.
Chief Bruce says the possible cause is discarded smoking materials, igniting dried vegetation under the front porch. However, the fire is officially under investigation.
No injuries to any of the occupants or Red Oak Fire Department personnel.
The Following Agencies assisted: Red Oak Police Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Elliott Fire Department, Stanton Fire Department, and the Montgomery County Communications Center.
