(Creston) A Union County Deputy stopped a possibly intoxicated driver on Thursday at McKinley Street and Adams Street in Creston. The driver, identified as 68-year-old James Robert Brown of Corning, Iowa, immediately opened the driver’s side door of the vehicle and became sick. Authorities say Brown appeared to be disoriented and confused. The 2000 S-10 pickup appeared to have been in a recent collision. Medic 1 transported Brown to Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.
During the investigation, authorities learned the pickup went through a stop sign at the intersection of Monroe and 180th Street at the Cromwell Cemetery. The pickup collided with a guard rail, a ditch, and a plastic fence and continued into the cemetery, hitting several gravestones. Deputies found parts of the pickup and the front license plate at the scene.
The damage to the guard rail is estimated at $2,500, and damage to the fence and gravestones is estimated at $5,000. The 2000 S-10 Chevy pickup received an estimated $2,500 in damage.
