(Des Moines) The Emerald Ash Borer has been detected in all 99 Iowa Counties. The Emerald Ash is a destructive insect that targets ash trees. Emmet County was the last to confirm the insect’s presence, according to the Iowa Department of Agriculture. The invasive beetle was first identified in 2002 and was in Iowa by 2010. Residents are urged to manage infested trees and source firewood locally to prevent further spread.
Iowa State University Extension says mid-April through May is the best time to treat trees for emerald ash border. Insecticide treatments can help preserve and protect healthy ash trees. E-A-B is considered a significant threat to all species of ash trees.
