(Exira, IA) — The Hill belonged to Alex Hansen. In his final football game of his career — more than likely — the senior dominated on offense, defense and special teams as Exira EHK ran away from Griswold 60-30 on Friday night.
Hansen would rush for 3 TD; caught a TD pass; was all over the field on defense; and he even recovered his own onside kick. The Spartans would build a 40-12 lead early in the second quarter but Griswold would put the game into a stalemate the rest of the half with Exira leading 40-18. The Tigers would get a great kickoff return by Zane Johnson who took all the way down to the Exira 11 yard line but Hansen led the charge on defense and the Tigers turned it over on downs. From their own 10, the Spartans drove down the field and Bryce Brabham found Hansen for a 10 yard TD pass to make it 46-18.
Head Coach Drew Buckholdt then called an onside kick and Hansen squibbed on in the middle of the field and fell on it himself at the Griswold 35. Exira wasn’t able to score and after Bode Wyman found Auden Wilson for a 4 yard TD pass early in the 4th quarter to make it 46-24, Hansen would put it out of reach when he scored a 1 yard TD with 5:50 left; then picked off Wyman and capped the ensuing drive with a 15 yard TD run finishing off an incredible night.
Unofficially, Hansen had 26 carries for 189 yards and 3 TD plus 2 catches for 6 yards and 1 TD. It was a night for him to remember
Bryce Brabham had 21 carries for 224 yards and 1 TD plus was 4-7 passing for 40 yards and 3 TD. For Griswold, Zane Johnson had 18 carries for 84 yards, Bode Wyman was 13-30 passing for 191 yards 2 TD and 2 INT. Collin Bowers had 7 catches for 99 yards but got hurt in the 2nd quarter and wasn’t the same the rest of the game. Peyton Cook had 2 rushes for 25 yards and 1 TD plus caught a 22 yard TD pass.
Exira EHK is now 3-5 while Griswold falls to 2-6.
