(Ames, IA) — The wins keep coming for Iowa St. — six in a row to start the season after last Saturday’s 28-16 win in West Virginia. It was the coming out party for Carson Hansen with 96 yards rushing and 3 TD. The week before it was Jaylon Jackson with 107 yards and 2 TD against Baylor. The week before that it was Abu Sama with 101 yards and 1 TD versus Houston. Three weeks and three different outstanding rushing performances. Head Coach Matt Campbell says there really isn’t any science to determining his starter
While the three backs are competing for playing time, the Cyclones have two star wide receivers competing for the football. Jaylin Noel has 29 catches for 528 yards and 3 TD while Jayden Higgins has 39 receptions for 505 yards and 5 scores. Campbell says its a friendly rivalry and their ability has helped Rocco Becht
ISU’s defense continues to thrive just as much as the offense — Iowa St. is plus 9 in the turnover margin which leads the Big 12 and ranks 4th in the country. Plus, six different Cyclones have combined for 10 interceptions. Campbell says one area of the game compliments the other
As Iowa St. continues to win and the undefeated teams across the country continue to dwindle, the Cyclones are getting more and more national attention and are considered one of the favorites to win the Big 12. Campbell says that ISU has won some games early in the season in the past; they have to win they key games late
This week, Iowa St. hosts Central Florida — the Knights have had a problem at quarterback — Arkansas transfer KJ Jefferson got benched. Freshman EJ Colson got the start last week against Cincinnati but he was benched too in favor of Jacurri Brown. Who knows who will start or play this week. One thing is certain, UCF has a solid running game with RJ Harvey and Peny Boone both averaging about 6 yards a carry
3-3 UCF visits #9 ranked Iowa St. 6-0, game time at Jack Trice Stadium is 6:30 pm, Cyclone Pre Game at 4:30 on KSOM.
