(Red Oak) Three fire departments responded to a bean field on Saturday afternoon in Montgomery County.
Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the call went out at 2:09 p.m., dispatching fire departments from Red Oak, Stanton, and Elliott to 230th and D Avenue. Chief Bruce said when firefighters, approximately 1/3 of the acre had burned. Fire crews quickly extinguished the blaze, canceling mutual Aid from other departments en route.
Several farmers arrived with disks and assisted with fire ground suppression/salvage-overhaul operations. Fireground operations were completed at 2:45 p.m. There were no reported injuries.
The fire is believed to have originated from the arching of wind-blown overhead powerlines.
The Red Oak Fire Department thanks the reporting party for making such a quick call to 911, all the farmers who responded with tractors and disks, and the Mutual Aid departments for responding.
