Mrs. Phyllis Leona Schnackel, age 100, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 03, 2024, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, IA.
Phyllis Leona Giese was born on July 13, 1924, to Gladys (Razze) and Carl Giese in Avoca, Iowa. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1942. On June 4, 1943, she married Albert Henry Schnackel at the First Methodist Church in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union, six children were born: Wayne, Linda, John, Phillip, Marjorie, and Dick. Phyllis and Albert farmed for a few years near Hancock and Marne and many years south of Walnut. Phyllis was a primary homemaker, caring for the family’s daily tasks. After the youngest child went to school, Phyllis worked at Heritage House and Clairmar Fabrics in Atlantic.
Phyllis was a 78-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. She had been a member of the Methodist Church in Hancock, Marne, and lastly, in Atlantic, where she was a member of the Methodist Women.
Preceding Phyllis in death were her husband, Albert, parents, sister, Bertha Ann Giese Manz, and granddaughter, Shannon (Schnackel) Autler.
Those surviving Phyllis are her children, Wayne (Lee Lictenwalter) Schnackel of Durham, NC, Linda Petersen of Exira, IA, John (Lyla) Schnackel of Ft. Collins, CO, Philip Schnackel of Council Bluffs, IA, Marjorie (Terry) Frisbie of Walnut, Dick (Lisa) Schnackel of Crescent, IA; grandchildren, Sarah (Foster) Hunt of Durham, NC, Michael (Pam) Petersen of Corwith, IA and their children, Ryan White, RJ White, Jon White, and their families; Amy (James) Klemish of Adair, IA, Chad Schnackel of Denver, CO, Eric (Cassie) Schnackel and their children, Anissa and Rafe of Council Bluffs, IA, Ryan Schnackel of Denver, CO, Eric (Cassie) Schnackel, and their kids, Anissa, Rafe, of Council Bluffs, IA, Ryan (Mitzi) Schnackel, and their kids, Rosalind and Niels of Solon, IA, Todd Schnackel, of Council Bluffs, Emily (William) Mathis of Grand Island, NE, Rebecca (Benjamin) Caldwell, and their kids, Barrett, Leona, Brigham, of Pella, IA, Victoria (Ryan) Means, and their kids, Cooper, Nelson, and Milo, of Atlantic, IA, Luke (Mariah) Frisbie of Oskaloosa, IA, Carl Schnackel (Fiancée Madison) of Crescent, IA, Caye Schnackel of Brooklyn, NY.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, October 11, 2024. at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, IA, with Pastor Dan Wiebesiek officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. Interment will occur following the luncheon at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, IA.
Visitation with the family will also be held on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Order of Eastern Star, Liberty Chapter Marne, will conduct an Eastern Star Service at 10:30 a.m.
