(Audubon, IA) — Its Western Iowa Conference showdown tonight in volleyball as AHSTW visits Audubon, coverage on KSOM.
The Vikings have played in 6 more matches than the Wheelers having spent just about every weekend at a tournament. AHSTW is led by Senior Loralei Wahling with 114 kills but has young players involved in the offense with Freshman Kennedy Wyman with 110 kills and Sophomore Addison Carroll chipping in 97 kills. Vikings Head Coach Kelsey Fraher says it has been up and down for both players
Defense seems to be the strength of AHSTW according to Fraher. They 939 digs on the season led by Junior Libero Halle Goodman with 254; Sophomore Setter Kendra Hansen has 142 and Senior Claire Mertz has 128. They have not put up the numbers in blocks but Fraher says they have had a presence at the net
Audubon is led by Junior Harlow Miller who has some impressive numbers — 220 kills, 38 blocks, 135 digs, and 25 aces. Fraher says they’ll do everything they can to keep her away from the ball
For the Wheelers, Head Coach Brandi Gruhn says that defenses have tried repeatedly to block Miller but somehow she still comes through
AHSTW uses multiple players on offense while Miller does much of the damage for Audubon. Gruhn says her defense has to come up big to identify the hitter
Gruhn believes a victory tonight is important to improve Audubon’s confidence
AHSTW 4-24 visits Audubon 5-17, game time tonight is at 7:20, coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM
