(Underwood, IA) — Underwood football is knocking on unfamiliar territory right now — last week AHSTW gave the Eagles their third loss of the season 26-21. Three losses — most teams would take that but the Eagles haven’t had three losses in a season since 2018.
So back to work on Friday as the Eagles battle Shenandoah in a Class 1A, District 8 match-up. One big area that Head Coach Nate Mechaelsen wants to address is the running game. While it has improved some with the return of Will Buckholdt from injury, there is still some things to do to get better
With Buckholdt’s return, Samuel Schoening’s carries have been reduced — the Senior is the leader on defense with 35 tackles and 4.5 for a loss but Mechaelsen says Schoening is still needed on offense
This week the Eagles face Shenandoah — while Underwood has lost 3 of their last 4 the Mustangs have won 2 in a row and have put up 103 points in those 2 games. Shenandoah likes to throw it — Sophomore QB Joey O’Rourke has passed for 999 yards this season and 13 TD so Mechaelsen says winning Friday won’t be easy
1-3 Underwood visits 2-2 Shenandoah.
