(Des Moines) New Centers for Disease Control & Prevention numbers show Iowa has the seventh-highest obesity rate in the nation. The C-D-C says Iowa is one of 23 states with adult obesity rates of 35 percent or higher. Those who study the problem say unhealthy foods are just one piece.
“We also have many more jobs that are sedentary, and we are sitting behind a desk in our jobs more than we used to,” said Jami Haberl of Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative. “We are not our and moving throughout the day.”
Jami Haberl of Iowa’s Healthiest State Initiative says those who study obesity in Iowa cite its health ramifications. “There are over 200 conditions related to obesity,” said Haberl.
Haberl encourages Iowans to participate in the annual Healthiest State Walk on October 2nd.
