(Guthrie Center, IA) — It has been over a week since AC/GC took the volleyball court. The Chargers got re-charged last week during Homecoming and Head Coach Barb South decided to let her girls enjoy the festivities and spent a full week at practice. So far so good for the team that missed state last year by one game, AC/GC is off to a 9-3 start.
The Chargers lost three key starters off last season regional finalist but they return a key piece and the team captain Setter Shay Lemke. Right now, Lemke has 252 assists which ranks 13th in Class 2A and she says she thriving on being a leader on the court
Offensively, AC/GC is led by Sophomore Stella Largent with 197 kills and Junior Camdyn Richter with 72 kills. Lemke says each player likes the volleyball set in a certain way
The service game is a strength of AC/GC and of Lemke who leads the team with 28 aces. Largent has 26, Richter has 25, Becca Littler has 19, everybody that serves for the Charger is a threat for an ace
Lemke says that the team has to continue to work together if they want to achieve big goals this season
AC/GC is back on the volleyball court tomorrow night hosting East Sac County in a non conference match up.
