(Griswold, IA) — Fremont Mills offense put on a show on Friday night as they scored a touchdown on their first 8 possessions and the Knights ran away from Griswold 63-20.
The Tigers moved the ball on their opening possession but Auden Wilson missed a 24 yard field goal and Fremont Mills struck right away — on their 2nd play Sawyer Forney threw deep and Mason Reed reached up with one hand, made an incredible catch, then turned and raced the rest of the way for a 56 yard TD reception. The two point conversion made it 8-0. It was one of the best catches of the year so far and an impressive play by Reed.
Griswold would answer right back as Bode Wyman hit Wilson for a 36 yard TD, the 2 point try was no good and the Tigers had cut it to 8-6. That’s when Fremont Mills took off. Forney hit Sam Sanchez for a 38 yard TD, the first of three scores for the tight end. Reed would catch another TD pass, this time from 39 yards. After a Griswold fumble, Forney hit Sanchez for an 11 yard TD pass. JW Linkenhoker would run 26 yards for another score to make it 40-6.
The Tigers would put together a 5 minute drive starting from their own 15 and Wyman hit Wyatt Peterson for a 10 yard TD pass to make it 40-12 but the Knights answered quickly and it was on another big play — Sanchez caught a 32 yard TD and it was 48-12 at the half.
It was running clock the entire 2nd half. Griswold did get another TD on a 13 yard pass from Wyman to Peterson but Fremont Mills was too much on this night and ran away with a 43 point win.
Griswold did some nice things on offense — Wyman unofficially was 12-22 passing for 208 yards and 3 TD. Peterson had 7 catches for 105 yards and 2 TD. Wilson had 3 catches for 78 yards and another score. Zane Johnson finished with 13 carries for 77 yards. Wyman, however, had -41 yards rushing and was sacked 5 times.
For Fremont Mills, unofficial stats — Forney was 5-7 passing for 171 yards and 5 TD. Linkenhoker had 9 carries for 156 yards and 2 TD. Sanchez had 3 catches for 81 yards and 3 scores and Reed had 2 catches for 95 yards and 2 TD.
Griswold falls to 0-4, they look to rebound next week at Stanton. Fremont Mills improves to 3-1, the Knights face East Mills next week.
