(Area) Three southwest Iowa facilities were recognized for participating in the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Stroke post-acute care initiative, which aims to improve care for stroke patients.
Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan and Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs received achievement awards. Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon received a recognition award.
Stroke affects 795,000 people annually in the U.S. and is a leading cause of disability. The initiative helps facilities implement evidence-based stroke recovery and prevention practices through standardized care, patient education, and quality improvement. Participants receive support, a stipend, and the chance to collaborate with stroke rehabilitation experts.
Recognized facilities have committed to stroke-specific rehabilitation programs, staff education, and continuous quality improvement.
