(Des Moines) Des Moines International Airport will temporarily close its main entrance from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 4 a.m. Wednesday due to construction on Fleur Drive. All traffic will be directed through Leland Avenue. The closure is expected to exacerbate congestion during the peak Labor Day travel period, projected to be the busiest on record with over 17 million passengers nationwide. According to airport officials, local travel is expected to remain steady despite the construction, with about 36 hundred passengers over the long weekend. Travelers should allow extra time or adjust their plans to avoid delays.
