(Exira, IA) — The Exira EHK volleyball team is returning the majority of its starters so there’s hope of getting over the .500 mark this year which has not been achieved since 2016.
Entering his third year as Head Coach, Derek Reischauer has seen tremendous strides in taking care of the volleyball and hopes the trend continues
Hannah Nelson and Gemini Goodwin were the two seniors who graduated — any subtractions hurts because Exira doesn’t have great numbers to begin with. So the Spartans threw three freshmen into the starting line-up and they instantly produced. Taryn Petersen was second on the team with 102 kills plus led the team with 105 digs. Brooklyn Flathers led the team in assists with 220. Riley Miller was second in assists with 168. Reischauer does not feel like he’ll need to start freshmen this year
Exira had a super sophomore now a junior Jaelynn Petersen who was all over the court for the Spartans with 171 kills, 91 digs, 39 blocks, and 34 aces. Reischauer is excited to see where she will go this year
Exira opens their volleyball season on Thursday August 29 hosting a triangular with Griswold and Lenox.
