(Greenfield, IA) — The Wolverines have changed some things around entering this season — recent Morningside grad Jack West has come in join Brad Honnold and hoping to turn things around.
After a playoff team for back-to-back seasons, Nodaway Valley has two winless seasons in a row and sees a 17 game losing streak currently on the board. West believes this team is prime to end the losing streak and turn the record upside down
Senior Eli Harris is back at Quarterback and will try to improve his Junior numbers with included 9 INT and only 1 TD pass. Juniors Ashton Honnold (318 yards rushing) and Titus Hamer will try to improve the running game. Still, West believes that his best competition in pre-season practice will be up front
The Wolverines do have a star player returning and that is Senior Trenton Warner who is already over 100 career wins in his wrestling career — last year on the gridiron, Warner had 49 tackles, 39 solo, 15 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Not bad numbers to build around. Overall West feels the need to raise the confidence level of his football team before they can even worry about the X’s and O’s
Nodaway Valley opens their season on Friday, August 30 with a non-district game at Clarinda.
