(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines says thunderstorms will arrive this evening from the west and move across the state overnight. Damaging winds and large hail will be the primary threats. Heavy rain is also a concern for some areas. All of southwest Iowa is in an enhanced risk for severe storms.
Meanwhile, an Excessive Heat Warning in effect from Noon to 7:00 p.m. for Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont and Page counties due to dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 112 expected. A Heat Advisory in effect from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. for Audubon, Guthrie, Cass, Adair, Adams and Union counties with heat index values up to 110 expected.
