(Des Moines) Early this morning, the National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for counties in west central and parts of southwest Iowa along Interstate 80.
Emergency Management reported an estimated 60-mile-per-hour wind gust in Hamlin around 1:50 a.m. A 60-mile-per-hour wind gust near Willey in Carroll County. A report of 66 miles-per-hour wind gust near Grimes and the Des Moines Airport reported a 59-mile-per-hour wind gust. The highest wind gust was reported near Kirksville in Wapello County (74 miles per hour).
Other counties in central and eastern Iowa received heavy rains.
