(Des Moines) The National Weather Service forecasts high heat and humidity today and Wednesday. Heat index values will exceed 105° at times, especially over the southern half of Iowa. The lows will be warm overnight in the mid to upper 70s tonight. However, storms today and Wednesday may cause temperatures to hold below forecast for brief periods.
There is an excessive heat warning for Pottawattamie, Mills, Montgomery, Page, and Fremont Counties. Heat index values are expected to reach 113 degrees from 1:00 p.m. today through Wednesday evening.
The rest of southwest and western Iowa is under a Heat Advisory from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. this evening. Heat Index values could reach 106 degrees.
