(Red Oak) An overloaded power cord caused a house fire in Red Oak this (Thursday) morning.
The Red Oak Fire Department was dispatched to 305 S 6th Street at around 8:06 a.m. for a house filling with smoke. The sole occupant at the time was able to self-evacuate without injury. Fire crews made entry and found the residence had a large amount of smoke coming from the basement area. Crews located an overloaded power cord in the basement, which had ignited, causing a fire, which extended to the adjoining floor joists. Minimal damage had occurred.
Fire crews made appropriate extinguishment of the fire and ventilated the smoke out of the residence. The property was released back to the home owner without incident.
There were no injuries to Firefighters or the occupant.
