(Maryville, MO) – Northwest Missouri State has announced the promotion of Christy Tapps from assistant athletic trainer to now the new head athletic trainer for the Bearcats.
Tapps started her tenure with Northwest Missouri State in 2016 where she helped assist student-athletes for every Bearcat athletic program. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sports medicine and sports training back in 2007 from Missouri State University and then her master’s degree in health and human performance from Oklahoma State University in 2009. She worked as a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State, working with the cross country and track and field programs while also spending a season as the intern athletic trainer working with men’s and women’s tennis.
Northwest Missouri State recognized Tapps with the Lifesaver Award for providing care and saving the life of an athlete whose heart stopped during a practice session. She has also been recognized by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and received the 2019 Intercollegiate Council of Sports Medicine Above and Beyond Award.
