(Iowa City, IA) – Caitlin Clark still continues to earn collegiate awards after playing professionally for over a month for the Indiana Fever. The former Hawkeye guard has been named the Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year.
Clark is now the first Iowa athlete to win the award in back-to-back years and is only the third repeat winner in the Big Ten Conference behind Wisconsin’s Suzy Favor in 1988-90 and Indiana’s Lilly King 2017-18. This marks just the ninth time that a Hawkeye has earned the Big Ten Athlete of the Year award and the fourth time in the last six seasons. The last to earn the award was Megan Gustafson for Hawkeye women’s basketball.
The West Des Moines native can now place this award next to another Honda Cup that she earned earlier this week alongside being named the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year by CWSA. Clark has also earned the Wade Trophies and the USBWA Ann Drysdale Player of the Year honor. To continue with her awards, she also earned the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award and is the first-ever three-time Dawn Staley Award winner.
For the Indiana Fever, she has averaged 16.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game this season while shooting above 40% from the field. Throughout her collegiate career, she averaged 31.6 points and 8.9 assists per game while breaking the NCAA women’s tournament scoring record during Iowa’s NCAA Tournament run.
Clark will continue with the Indiana Fever as they play on Sunday, June 30th against the Phoenix Mercury.
