(Ames, IA) – Iowa State’s Emily Ryan has been named the Big XII Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year as announced on Wednesday.
Ryan was a key player in Iowa State’s run in the 2024 NCAA Tournament while averaging 11.6 points and 6.9 assists per game. She made her second overall appearance in the Big XII title game while ranking as one of the nation’s most effective point guards. The Kansas native was named to the Big XII All-Tournament Team after averaging 10.3 points and 9.3 assists per game over the course of the conference tournament. Not only was her performance on the court effective, but she earned a 3.53 GPA as a kinesiology and health sciences major.
In the NCAA Tournament loss to Stanford, Emily Ryan led the Cyclones for her career-high 36 points, marking her first-ever 30-point game. Those 36 points marked the second-highest single-game total in Iowa State NCAA Tournament history. That matches the same mark set by Ashley Joens that was set in 2022.
Ryan is the first Cyclones to earn the award since it was established in 2013.
