(Guthrie Center, IA) – ACGC softball has been through a tough stretch of games recently, with games against some of the top opponents in the West Central Activities Conference. In their last seven games, the Chargers have only been able to capture one win as they’ve been struggling to add some on the board with games against #1 Van Meter and Pleasantville who both are at the top of the conference. Head Coach Eric Van Meter is hoping that they can turn the tide after a few tough games, especially with just two weeks left in the regular season.
Charger seniors have been leading the stat sheet with Van Meter, Rowley, Carney, and Richter all leading the pack in batting average. In the last few games, some of the juniors and sophomores have started to step up both at the plate and on the field. These seniors have set a great tone for the team, and they’re continuing to make their mark.
Success at the plate has to be mentally charged for the Chargers in terms of broadening out their options. Hitting has been the make-or-break for ACGC this season. It is all about the mentality of these girls while relying on the bat to do the work, rather than pressing themselves.
As ACGC moves into their last five games of the regular season, they’ve got a tough matchup tonight against Panorama. The last time that they took on the Panthers, it was a 3-3 tied ballgame until the top of the fifth, where ACGC knocked six runs on the board. They didn’t stop there as they added four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to take that competition 18-4. If the Chargers can replicate their success from that ballgame, they’ll be taking a win on senior night.
To look forward, ACGC has just five games left of the regular season, counting tonight’s competition. These games are crucial to pointing the Chargers in the right direction to end the regular season.
ACGC battles Panorama tonight at home for their senior night competition with the opening pitch at 7:00 p.m. KSOM 96.5 and Western Iowa Today TV will be live with Zach Collins and Austin West on the call with the pregame show starting at 6:45 p.m.
