(Des Moines) KCCI News has reported that a judge has denied former Adair Police Chief Brad Wendt’s request for a new trial.
This decision comes after a federal jury convicted Wendt in Des Moines on February 14, 2024. He was found guilty of conspiring to make false statements to the ATF and illegal possession of a machine gun.
Wendt, who also owns BW Outfitters, a federal firearms licensee in Denison, Iowa, faced 11 charges related to allegedly misusing his position to acquire and possess machine guns.
Despite Wendt’s lawyers requesting a new trial on the grounds of vague charges and insufficient evidence, the judge presented evidence such as text messages and law enforcement letters Wendt had written during his tenure in a 30-page document.
