(Adair) In the recent Adair-Casey School Board meeting, Superintendent Josh Rasmussen discussed the final tax rate. According to Rasmussen, the Iowa Department of Management has released the final property tax rates for the upcoming school year. The approved 2.5 SSA by the legislature has resulted in a tax rate of 9.87 for Adair-Casey, compared to the certified rate of 10.17. For Guthrie Center, the 2.5 state supplemental aid has led to an overall tax rate of 12.56, compared to 12.87.
On the other hand, the liability and workers’ compensation insurance rates for the school districts rose significantly. ACGC consists of two school districts, both insured separately. The property liability and workers’ compensation insurance increased by 31% for the Adair-Casey School District, bringing the total insurance cost to $115,000. Guthrie Center’s insurance rate increased by 18.9%, resulting in a total insurance cost of $175,000.
Rasmussen says this is a lot of cost going back to the management, which the property taxpayers fund. Rasmussen says school districts currently take on a lot of risk, not to mention the changes to insurance, which they are dealing with right now.
The Adair-Casey School Board approved contracts for the following personnel: – William Shull, Physical Education/Health Teacher and junior high weightlifting coach – Kena Baier, First-grade teacher – Emma Bireline, Junior High English Teacher – Rebecca Diemer, Junior High Cross Country Coach.
