(Greenfield) Adair-Guthrie County Emergency Management released its latest update regarding information to its citizens dealing with the aftermath of the May 21 tornado that swept through Greenfield. The following information includes a community meeting, storm shelter location, debris removal, demolition, DRC, and FEMA.
*A community meeting to discuss recovery efforts will be held on Sunday, June 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Nodaway Valley High School Auditorium. Local officials and community leaders will be available to answer questions. Everyone is welcome, and local volunteers will provide childcare.
* It will be hot again today with gusty winds. There is a chance for severe storms this afternoon into the evening. In severe weather, the storm shelter is at City Hall. Enter through the alley door on the southwest corner of the building.
*Please work with volunteer organizations or approved contractors to continue storm debris removal. Emergency crews no longer pick up and dispose of storm debris and demolition material from the right-of-way. If you need help with debris removal or housing demolition, don’t hesitate to contact the volunteer center for assistance. Volunteer crews are still working on these projects in Adair County.
*Follow these steps for housing demolition: – Contact your insurance company. – If you need to have your house demolished, don’t hesitate to contact the volunteer center between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. at 641-631-6555 or use a city-approved licensed contractor. – Contact Greenfield Municipal Utilities at 844-580-0810, Option 2. – If your home’s foundation is being removed, call 844-580-0810 to inspect sewers.
*FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is at the Nodaway Valley Elementary School. Officials are on site providing one-on-one assistance for people affected by the recent tornado. – The DRC will operate from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. – You can also call 800-621-3362 with questions.
*If you were denied benefits, don’t hesitate to contact FEMA, revisit the DRC, and take any documentation you received by mail or email. You may still qualify for benefits. – A city-wide curfew is still in effect for Greenfield.
