(Elk Horn) Mayor Stan Jens of Elk Horn issued a timely reminder to parents on Friday afternoon, urging them to discuss safety measures with their children in light of recent events. The reminder comes after reports of an incident allegedly occurring around 3:30 p.m. Mayor Jens took to social media to emphasize the importance of children being aware of their surroundings and remaining vigilant towards unfamiliar individuals and vehicles.
According to Mayor Jens, KSOM/KS95 News, allegedly, the driver attempted to lure a child into the vehicle as the child walked home from the Elk Horn Pool. As a precautionary measure, all local law enforcement agencies were promptly notified to conduct a comprehensive search of Elk Horn.
In response, facilities were temporarily locked down until authorities could confirm the area’s safety. The driver was described as a bald white male wearing a black shirt. Despite an extensive search, which included the Highway 173 I-80 entrance and surrounding roadways, law enforcement could not locate the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Mayor Jens said staff at the Audubon Pool were notified by the Audubon County Communications Center about a the driver of a white van that had allegedly attempted to lure a child into the vehicle after leaving the facility to walk home.
